О художнике

Ana Saut is an interdisciplinary artist originally from Riga, Latvia, and currently based in Valencia, Spain. Her practice brings together visual art and psychology to explore memory, childhood, identity, migration and the idea of home. Working across installation, painting, collage, artist books, video and sound, she creates research-led projects in which personal experience becomes a point of departure for broader collective reflection. Saut studied art, industrial design and psychology, and later completed the Free Workshops programme at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Her work has been presented internationally in museums, galleries, festivals and residency programmes, including MMOMA in Moscow, Arte Laguna Prize in Venice, SOMArts in San Francisco, KC Grad in Belgrade and projects in Sri Lanka, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her current work focuses on memory as a living, unstable.
«A key element of my artistic practice is a physiologically heightened sensitivity to color — an innate perceptual intensity that has shaped the way I interact with the visual world. This unique sensibility allows me to compose finely tuned, emotionally charged color combinations that form the expressive foundation of my work. Color, in my practice, is more than a formal element — it is a language of affect, intuition, and transformation. I work primarily in abstraction, where the absence of representation opens space for the viewer’s imag- ination. Without narrative or figuration, the focus shifts to perception itself: to the intensity of hue, the rhythm of form, and the emotional at- mosphere generated through painterly relationships. In this sense, my work aligns with traditions of lyrical abstraction and affect theory, which consider how color can bypass rational interpretation and speak directly to the body. My installations often consist of abstract works in diverse formats — oil on canvas, collage, watercolor — interspersed with ready-mades and small tactile objects. These elements form immersive environments, or micro-worlds, in which painting and object co-exist. This spatial ap- proach invites the viewer into a multisensory encounter, where color, scale, and material presence generate a sense of intimate immersion. With a background in psychology, I am drawn to the concept of the “Inner Child” — a psychological construct representing the core of our spontaneity, creativity, and joy. I view abstraction as a portal to this di- mension of self. Through vibrant color fields and playful compositional gestures, I seek to activate emotional memory and awaken the parts of us that are most alive, curious, and unguarded. In a time marked by external stress and saturation, I aim to create art as a counterbalance — a space of nourishment, vibrancy, and connec- tion. My work offers viewers a moment of pause, a chance to recharge through sensory engagement, and an invitation to reconnect with the richness of their own inner world.»
